Mike Redman is passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for the owners of mid-market sized businesses. These businesses have a turnover of anywhere from $2,000,000 to $20,000,000. He has solid experience in building businesses and selling one of them for a multi-million dollar sum. Mike has a long history of closing complex transactions, whether this be in the financial engineering industry, corporate advisory field, or financial services industry. Simply put, Mike is a deal maker. To ensure the buyer has no regrets, he will apply a singular focus when taking on a sales mandate from a business owner and make sure the seller achieves the best outcome. Having held senior positions in banking and finance, both in Southern Africa and in New Zealand, Mike certainly has the type of strong financial background you will want on your side. He also spent several years with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, advising companies on their capital structure, debt optimisation, and business and economic development. He has spent his career structuring deals and negotiating complex financial transactions. Mike has also assisted in establishing a very successful family graphics and pre-press business over a ten year period, and later became a key member of a small team, building up a very successful financial services business in New Zealand, ultimately selling the business for several million dollars. As a qualified cost and management accountant, Mike has the ability to dissect the ‘numbers’ and can quickly drill down to the real drivers in the business. At the same time, he is very empathetic to the complexities and personal aspects that often underpin decision making in the privately owned business arena. Mike has other interests. He and his wife started a small charitable entity in New Zealand, focused on providing pre-school education and nourishment to orphaned and vulnerable children in Botswana, and he is currently a Board member of L’Arche NZ – an accommodation and services provider for the disabled, based on the Kapiti Coast. Mike is an active member of Rotary, and is a keen, but very average road cyclist, and also loves to occasionally get out on the ocean in his kayak. Mike has been married for over 45 years to Veronica.They have three children and nine grandchildren – all of whom are the light of their lives.

Mike took primary responsibility for negotiating the sale of our business, a complex process taking nearly three years plus to conclude. There was an intensive initial negotiation period of nearly 12 months before the deal was actually signed, and then a two year ‘proving period’ followed by an equally intense revaluation exercise. The latter saw a swing in value in our favour of approximately 10% of the purchase price which was in excess of $3,000,000.
Mike was very focused on achieving a great outcome for the shareholders and we were all delighted with the final result. He made it look easy but I know there were many many extra hours put in to achieve the final outcome. Mike also negotiated a major strategic alliance for our firm, and closed many major transactions during his time with STEP Financial. He is a deal maker, and as we used to say a born ‘elephant hunter’ which ties up nicely to his origins in Africa!
