PLANNING IS KEY – to realising maximum value on best possible terms

Planning to Exit Your Business

There are a confusing number of options open to you in choosing the optimum way to exit your business. See below for the options available to you which Mike can guide you through and select the most effective in achieving your objectives.

Exit Readiness Assessment:

As part of the process of exiting your business, it is as well to take a hard look at how ‘exit ready’ your business in fact is at present.

If you want to achieve top dollar, then it is wise to review your state of exit readiness and take whatever action is needed to really bring your business up to the best possible position for sale.
Mike has access to proprietary software which he can use to undertake a very comprehensive exit readiness assessment. A detailed plan of action will ensue from the assessment, and firm timelines can be drawn for the business improvement programme leading into the sales process at a selected future date.
The spider diagram below is just one example of the output from the proprietary software that Mike will use to determine your exit readiness.

A comprehensive report will be provided and a detailed action plan tabled which will address all of the issues that require attention before the business is placed on the market.

Exit Options

What are my exit options?  What do I need to do to get ready for sale or transfer?  Who would be interested in buying my business?  Should I try and sell the business to my employees?  My daughter may be interested in buying the business, how do I maintain equity between her and her siblings?

All of these and other questions may pop into your mind when you first sit down and seriously think about the possible sale of your business.

What are my sale options?

In broad terms you will have the following options:

  • Selling the business to employees – ‘a management buy-out’
  • Selling the business to a competitor, or other strategic buyer
  • Selling the business to an investor
  • Selling the business to a family member
  • Publicly listing the business and selling down your equity
  • Selling the business to a Private Equity Fund/ Venture

Mike Redman can take you through each one of these options, and assess the pros and cons and likely outcomes.  Using a selected group of publicly accessible business sale websites and in certain cases making discreet approaches to selected strategic buyers,  Mike would have every chance of bringing the sale to a successful conclusion.
